34 weeks

we just had our last ultrasound this week.  it is always so fun to see her, and she has definitely grown a lot. when the ultrasound tech told us that she weighs 5 1/2 pounds, andrew and i were so surprised! even though that's average--they said 58th percentile, it just seemed like so much. 5 1/2 pounds is a mostly grown baby! in fact my mom weighed more than a pound and a half LESS than that when she was born!!  it makes it feel more real and kind of makes me panic because we still need to get a lot ready. she is also head down, so it sounds like we won't have to worry about that.

her stats:

age: 6 weeks til birthday!!
weight: 5.5 lbs
length: 17 in. (approximate)
heartbeat: 136 bpm
name: unknown
gender: female
quirk: gets hiccups frequently

my stats:

feeling: happy + excited + exhausted + large
back pain: constant
weight gain: 25 lbs.
stretch marks: none yet
belly button: still an innie
sleeping: okay but a little uncomfortable
movements: still feel a lot but they are getting more muffled, and more painful
quirk: i am boycotting going to the movie theater til after this baby's born. it is so miserable because   i just can't get comfortable..
due date: february 8

p.s. if you want a sneak peek at the little lady, here's her profile:

can you see it? we aren't sure where she got those big lips, but andrew's calling her angelina jolie...

firsts

.

a few things i'm not used to...

-somebody opening my door and giving me a hand out of the car*
-somebody parking the car for us, and not having to walk in from a parking lot
-somebody taking my coat at the door
-somebody taking my dirty plates and napkins out of my hands
-somebody bringing around little desserts
-somebody noticing we didn't have drinks, asking what we'd like, and going and getting them for us
-somebody putting my coat on as i leave

well i think i could get used to some of these though ha ha. *not the car door thing. i don't like my gentlemen to get the door for me. i prefer not to wait and i don't mind letting myself out. the taking my dirty plate and getting me drinks and the bite size desserts on the other hand--now that wouldn't be too hard.

we went to our first PwC christmas party this weekend.  side note: trying to find a dress that has sleeves, goes down to the knees, is fancy, and covers a 7-month pregnant tum is kind of difficult.

anyway, i didn't really know what to expect...but we had a really good time. it was at neiman marcus downtown, which is funny. the party is literally inside the store, with racks of clothes and shoes pushed off to the sides, and cases of purses and watches in the middle of everything. and all with $700+ price tags ha ha.

aside from all the fancy stuff, it really was fun. there was every kind of food to choose from, unlimited drinks (even though for us that just means soda, it's still fun...i think everyone who gets an unlimited free bar appreciates this even more though ha) and lots of activities. i thought it might be boring, but we left not being able to even do everything there. it was fun to go downtown and if i could've traded in my heels for bare feet, or actually maybe my nikes (my feet always hurt these days--i think it's a pregnancy thing?) i would have no complaints at all.  we've already made a mental to-do list for next year.

31 weeks

only two months to go and feeling good.

the best

i'm not too good at getting the bed made every day. in fact it is one of those things i don't really care about on a daily basis.

that's one way that andrew is the best. he makes the bed all the time. and he's also the best at flossing every night.

another best? rolled up sleeves mean that andrew has done the dishes.

during the week i usually have a handle on keeping the kitchen clean. but when the weekend rolls around...i don't know what it is. i just let the dishes stack up. when andrew does the dishes....that's the best. and lately it's been a lot.

my view from the couch as i watch him clean up :)

and as a side note....

another best about being married is balancing shampoo and conditioner usage. ha ha.  i have always run out of conditioner so much quicker than shampoo. it is so annoying. but now, since andrew uses the shampoo but not the conditioner, they run out at almost the exact same time. i love it.

fall and holidays

fall is a bit belated in texas...but i can't complain. the weather has been nice and although it's a little colder these days, it's nothing compared to the bitter cold utah winters.

in october we went to the BYU/TCU game at the dallas cowboys stadium.

BYU lost. to make matters worse, the rangers lost the same night...they were so close
to winning too.  i have become a bit of a rangers fan. next year i believe third time will be the charm for them.

we went with our good friends the barbers.
for halloween we went as a golfer and a ball. a lot of people didn't really get my costume, especially if they saw me without andrew ha ha.
we carved the traditional pumpkin bearing our name.

we spent thanksgiving in texas. we went to the ward turkey bowl where i was just about the only wife spectator. i don't know if i'll make it again next year. you can tell from the pics just how foggy it was...and it was so cold. after the turkey bowl we went to allen and spent the weekend with the pickups. it was such a nice relaxing weekend. the dinner and pies were good too. we have so much to be thankful for.

well, it's a girl

sugar, spice, and everything nice.

that's what little girls are made of.

well...if she's anything like me, we might have our hands full.

my parents called me the "general authority baby" because i went bald on top for a while...

[please let my baby girl have hair]

for my 3 yr. old birthday, all i wanted was a batman watch. (my mom made this "watch" out of felt and puff paint, i loved it)

what happened to dolls?

they had to mandate the "11 second rule" when i was a toddler...because i couldn't be left alone for more than 10 seconds without causing havoc.

evidently, sometimes that rule was broken

and i had a bit of an attitude.

when we were kids, if we got grouchy, our parents would call us "ferguson". like, "oh no...what happened to our beautiful daughter meredith? all i can see is ferguson."

we probably developed some type of complex from that. kind of traumatizing ha ha.

but you can't say i lacked enthusiasm (i think i relapsed into this stage during high school, fanny pack included)

and then there was the infamous "jonathan taylor thomas" stage, as andrew calls it....when i was a total tomboy for all of my youth. (this was full blown. all my friends were boys. i was first pick during flag football at recess. i shopped at the boys section of old navy...those convertible pants that zipped off into shorts were my favorite. i even wore boxers for a couple of years.)

things got scary for a while:

i am the #1 stunna on the right.

so with that in mind...here's to our future.
i'm sure it'll be an adventure. and i'll take the "sugar and spice" poem with a grain of salt...

p.s. maybe she will be good at this. she moves and kicks allll day long. andrew has been able to feel it since 21 weeks...you can even see the kicks through my stomach.i feel it on one side of my stomach then on the opposite side a second later. she covers a lot of ground.

i can only imagine what it will be like as she gets bigger. at my last appointment, the doctor asked if i've been feeling movement. i said, yeah i've been feeling a lot. then as he was trying to hear the hearbeat, he was like "wow, this baby does move a lot...i can't get it to stay in one place long enough to listen".

so now we are wondering.....

which will it be?
we should find out this week!

20 weeks is a long time

this is what it looks like to grow a baby half-way:

(when it comes to blog content, i say give the people what they want. multiple pictures of my stomach? i'm sure it's what you've been clamoring for).

My Turn

Meredith has frequently requested that I make some posts to our blog. Through the first two years of marriage, I failed in that endeavor. So, today it's my turn to give an update on our life and a couple of changes we've had.

The first big change was moving to the great state of Texas. After having lived in Utah for the first two years of our marriage, we packed all of our belongings (many items that aren't too valuable) in the back of "old blue" and in a rented uhaul trailer, and made the 1200 mile drive to Allen, Texas. We weren't looking forward to the journey but it ended up not being so bad. I even described the trip as "it's so great" to my Dad when he called to see how things were going. Meredith thought that was a weird way to describe 22 hours spent in a truck, whose seats don't recline.

What helped pass the time the most during the drive was listening to a Harry Potter book on tape. Meredith comes from a family that worships at the alter of Potter. I, on the other hand, had very little exposure to the Potter World until Meredith and I started dating. I had seen 2 or 3 of the movies, but had never read any of the books. To be honest, the whole thing seemed juvenile and a bit nerdy. I have slowly been converted, or corrupted depending on how you look at it, to the series that J.K. Rowling created. I loved the six movie that I watched with Meredith and her family in San Diego a few weeks before we got married. After that, I decided I wasn't anti-Harry Hotter and have since slowly embraced the books and have seen all of the movies. Anyway, we listened to the 4th book, The Goblet of Fire, during our long drive.

I want to back track and post about something we did before we left Utah. A weekend or two before our move, we went to the Tim McGraw concert at USANA amphitheater. It was a lot of fun. He has a great voice and played most of the songs we wanted to hear. Jake and Tierani were there too, as were Travis and Kacie. It got a little rowdy. Luke Bryan opened for him. Meredith and I know him from an episode of the celebrity apprentice, so it was kind of hard to take him serious. He has some catchy songs though.

When we arrived in Texas, we were welcomed by my Parents, Pappy and Nancy, as well as 105 degree heat. Texas was in the middle of a streak of 55 consecutive days over 100 degrees. While unloading the truck and trailer, I sweat about 3 pints worth. We like it though. The heat wave finally broke a few weeks after we got here. The temperature was only in the 80s.

The other change we have undergone, and the reason we moved to Dallas, was starting a new job with PwC. Here's a picture Mer took of me before my first day of work.

I have a whole 2 weeks under my belt and so far, so far good.

Since moving out of Meredith's parents house, and actually needing to make our own dinners, Meredith has gotten in touch with her culinary side. For the past year we lived with Meredith's parents. My mother in law is an amazing cook and made a full dinner almost every night. This was really nice while we were busy with school or work. To be honest, I might have forgotten a little about how good of a cook Meredith is. She'll be mad that I am bragging on her but it's true. She has the genes for being a cook from her mom (sorry Mark). Since we've been in Texas she has made: stuffed shells, wontons, twice baked potatoes, bruschetta, and some amazing pumpkin cookies. It has all been delicious and she is great at trying new recipes so I'm sure there is more to come.

One project we've been working on since we got here was turning Meredith's beloved cart into a usable piece of furniture for our new apartment. We bought this cart about a year ago at a antique store.

Meredith loved it and there was no saying "no" to her. This was something I could tell she really wanted so we bought it, although it wasn't cheap (Meredith will tell you, and she is probably right, that it was a value for the price we paid for it). It sat in the front yard of my in-law's house for a whole year. Luckily, the weather doesn't affect it. Meredith has great vision when it comes to furniture, design, etc. While loading the cart into the truck, Travis asked "why are you taking this to Texas?" He clearly didn't see it's value. I don't blame him. At first glance, it does look like something used in a cotton gin.

Anyway, Mer has a long term plan of turning the cart into a kitchen island, but for now, with our kitchen being only about 150 sq ft, we needed to find another use for it. Mer came up with the idea to use it as a entertainment center for our living room. We planned to buy plywood, stain it, and place it as shelves on the frame of the cart. When we went to Home Depot, they didn't have plywood the right size so we instead decided to use wood boards to create shelves on the cart.

After sanding (meredith)

and staining (me) the boards,

this is the completed product and what will be sitting in our living room for a few years.
